How to space increases and decreases evenly
When you go from one stitch count to another across a row or round, you space the increases or decreases as evenly as possible. For decreases where two stitches are knitted together, first subtract two stitches from the stitch count for each decrease, then divide the rest by the number of decreases. For increases worked between the stitches, divide the whole stitch count by the number of increases. The result is the average number of stitches in each gap. If it does not divide evenly, make some gaps one stitch longer than the others. That keeps the spacing as even as possible.
