About Nysta

Nysta is an app that matches your yarn stash with patterns. You add your yarn, and we find patterns you can knit. If you are missing yarn for a pattern, we suggest yarn you can use instead. Here you can read how we find the suggestions and how we check them.

How we find the suggestions

The suggestions are based on specialist knowledge of yarn and its properties. When we compare two yarns, we look at gauge, construction, fibre and yardage, among other things. When you look at a pattern, we also consider whether the yarn suits the pattern's technique, such as cables, lace or colourwork.

In the match explanation, you can see what fits and what is different.

How we check the suggestions

We check the suggestions using specialist knitting knowledge and the yarn producers' own recommendations.

We read patterns and yarn data as carefully as we can. The information comes from many places and isn't always written the same way, so a match can sometimes look wrong. We keep correcting and improving. If you see something that doesn't add up, we'd love for you to report it from the match explanation or from the yarn's page. It helps us make Nysta better.
